Captain Kaiana M. Miller is an active duty Finance Officer in the United States Air Force. He is currently on special assignment at the University of Nevada-Reno studying to receive his Ph.D. in Economics with an expected follow-on assignment researching Department of Defense financial policies at the Pentagon. Prior to arriving in Nevada, Captain Miller worked for the Secretary of the Air Force Financial Management and Comptroller at Joint Base Andrews as a Cost Analyst where he developed financial estimates for multi-billion-dollar annual Defense Business System programs. He also worked at Eielson Air Force Base outside of Fairbanks, Alaska as the Wing Budget Officer, managing the allocation and execution of the 354thFighter Wing’s $400+ million annual budget and overseeing the bed-down of the Pacific Air Force’s first F-35 fighter squadrons. Captain Miller has received numerous Air Force awards throughout these assignments. Captain Miller received a B.S. in Management from the United States Air Force Academy (Distinguished Graduate) and a M.S. in Global Cost Analysis from the Air Force Institute of Technology (Distinguished Graduate). His research interests include public finance (tax policy) and the economic, social, and behavioral impacts of gambling and risk taking, particularly sports gambling.
