Infographic: Unpacking Food Insecurity

November 19, 2025

Nevada continues to face serious food insecurity challenges. In 2023, 15.1% of Nevadans—nearly half a million people—struggled to afford enough food, and more than a third of them fall into the “missing middle”: households that earn too much to qualify for SNAP but still cannot meet rising grocery costs. Rates are even higher in remote counties like Esmeralda, Nye, and Mineral (around 20%) and in underserved communities in Clark County (about 15%).

To make these findings easier to digest and share, we’ve created a new one-page infographic with the key data points. It highlights how food insecurity disproportionately impacts children, students, seniors, communities of color, and rural residents—along with the steep health and economic consequences, including more than $518 million in associated healthcare costs in 2022.
