Alex Bybee

Board Member

Alex Bybee, a native Nevadan, was inspired by his experience in the state’s public education system and early involvement in politics and community organizing to focus on improving educational opportunities and economic mobility. He is currently the Chief Strategy Officer for Communities In Schools of Nevada, a statewide education nonprofit. Previously, he served as Nevada State Director for Teach Plus, pioneering new roles and building departments with creativity and collaboration.

With experience in seven Nevada legislative sessions, Bybee has achieved significant policy victories, including funding for educator leadership programs, reforms to the state teacher evaluation system, and a $4 million appropriation for Communities In Schools of Nevada. In 2016, he led the bipartisan Save Our Schools coalition, successfully passing a bond measure generating nearly $1 billion for Washoe County school construction and repair.

Bybee is committed to independent journalism, evidence-based policymaking, and civic discourse. He serves on the boards of The Nevada Independent, the Guinn Center for Policy Priorities, and the Foundation for the LGBTQIA+ Community Center of Southern Nevada. An alumnus of the Jameson Fellowship, Leadership Las Vegas, and American Legion Boys Nation, he also moderates the Sun Youth Forum and hosts a program on UNLV-TV.
