------
As May ends and June begins, all eyes are trained on the Nevada Legislature. While the countdown to Sine Die is now in the single digits, the number of bills awaiting their fate remains high.
The Guinn Center is tracking more than 55 bills related to our research, addressing topics like Early Childhood Governance, Universal Pre-K, Nevada’s K-12 funding structure, Housing Affordability, and more. Another example: the governor’s office dropped its health bill earlier this week, which includes a proposal to break up the Department of Health and Human Services. We’re proud to say on this and several other policy issues, “We’ve got a brief for that.”
We know our state officials will burn the midnight oil in the coming days, and so will we. We look forward to sharing more insights into the session and new original research next month.

In the News

Guinn Center Executive Director Jill Tolles recently joined Face the State on 2 News Nevada to discuss our interim research and its impacts this legislative session. Our work has been quoted in legislative hearings, presented in committees, and — above all — recognized as a trusted resource across party lines.

Featured Report: Post-Pandemic Shifts in Workforce Engagement
This report, a collaboration between UNLV’s Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) and the Guinn Center, builds on a previous study to explore whether Nevada’s Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) remains affected by the pandemic’s impact. Using updated data from 2022, the report investigates whether Nevada’s reliance on the leisure and hospitality industry and the workforce’s relatively low levels of higher education contribute to the state’s lagging LFPR.
